The world is beginning to shake. Can you feel it? I can. And it's a lot to take in, even if you have faith in Jesus. Change is a hard thing in regular circumstances, it seems much more so especially now when almost everything we know, what we have counted on to stay the same, will not be the same anymore. The calendar is not simply turning a page to a new day, it is turning to a new era. I was walking down a forest path one day and I heard God speak to my heart and He said, "You will never walk this way again." And you know, that really wrecked me. Even just thinking about that moment five years ago brings tears to my eyes and I have a lump in my throat because when God speaks like that you have no choice but to become emotional. It goes deep and you feel like you are having a breakdown. I felt lead to give this as a personal word to someone too and when I did it was also very emotional then. It felt like a switch had been flipped. One moment I was just regular me and then next, well I could hardly get the words out I was so choked up with tears streaming down my face. And that word from God came true for that person, and their life was irrevocably changed. Not because of what I said, but because God knew what was coming and it happened. Their world shook and then our world shook because COVID arrived very shortly afterwards and we all felt that.
Our world is about to shake again in a major way, the signs are already there. So, what do we do? Our cultural narrative teaches us that we are capable of doing great things, and while this is true, it can be very overwhelming because that expectation just on its own makes us feel like if we are not doing great and glorious things we are doing nothing, and feeling like a failure on top of it all. So this what we need to tell ourselves, especially in the days of great change ahead, "I am capable of small things." God is completely aware of the fact that sometimes that's all we can manage. He is fully aware of our humanity. Psalm 103:14-16 confirms it, "For he knows that we are but dust and that our days are few and brief, like grass, like flowers, blown by the wind and gone forever." And while that can take the wind out of our sails it can also motivate us to turn our faces towards God on a daily basis. I had a moment the other night when I was up later than everyone else and I was watching YouTube and then a thought crossed my mind. I could turn my attention towards God instead and spend time in His Presence before I went to bed. And it was a choice, not a feel good leading. I let the lights go low and put worship music on to fill that space. Friends, it was so much more rewarding to tune myself into the Life Source of the universe than to stay where I had been. All that was necessary to change was to turn my mind and heart towards Him to make room for Him. I changed my focus and it brought me a real-life encounter with God. And it's so much more than anything else can give.
Everything thing else is second place to being with God, He is simply higher than everything else. Greater. Kinder. More beautiful. It's where I want to keep turning myself back to even if I do get distracted and forget that He is always there for me. This is may be considered a small thing to some, but really it is one of the greatest moves of all. When we sit with The One who put everything in its place, with The One who knows us better than we know ourselves, it's there that we are under the shadow of God's wings and we put the enemy of our souls on notice. When we do that there is nothing he can do to take away our victory in this game of life. The board is set up in our favour to win even if it takes longer than we thought because Jesus is always checkmate.
Out in the Fields with God.
The little cares that fretted me,
I lost them yesterday,
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play,
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.
The foolish fears of what might pass,
I cast them all away,
Among the clover-scented grass,
Among the new-mown hay,
Among the hushing of the corn,
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born,
Out in the fields with God.

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust." - Psalm 91:1-2
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." - James 4:8
"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both present life and the life to come". 1 Timothy 4:8
If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”- Romans 10:9-10
Keep stretching your hands out to God dear hearts. Pour your heart out like a waterfall to Him. The road has surely been rough, but we are mighty in Him. Praise you Jesus. You did it all.
